Causes of male infertility
•Varicocele - dilation of the veins of the testicles, which causes the temperature in the testicles to rise and the concentration of sperm to decrease.
•Infection: mumps, sexually transmitted infections - chlamydia or gonorrhea, as well as inflammation of the prostate gland - prostatitis and others
•Ejaculation problems - sperm goes back into the bladder during orgasm instead of coming out. (diabetes, spinal cord injury, medications, surgical intervention on the bladder, prostate and urethra...)
•Antibodies - antibodies against sperm produced by the immune system "by mistake" and they destroy spermatozoa
•Tumors - cancer and benign tumors of the male reproductive organs or endocrine glands (e.g., pituitary, thyroid, etc.), as well as radiation therapy or chemotherapy often irreversibly cause infertility in men.
•Problem with the descent of the testicle into the scrotum, when it remains in the abdominal cavity of the fetus before birth and does not descend into the scrotum
• Hormonal imbalance - in diseases of the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands, as well as in cases of overweight, etc.
•Ejaculatory duct defects - The tubes that carry sperm can be damaged by disease or injury. For example, in cystic fibrosis or other congenital diseases, the vas deferens are sometimes not developed at all.
•Chromosomal defects. Inherited diseases such as Klineferter syndrome, cystic fibrosis, Kallmann syndrome, and Kartagener syndrome.
•Sexual problems - erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, painful intercourse, psychological problems.
•Celiac disease - a digestive disorder caused by hypersensitivity to gluten.
•Certain medications: anabolic steroids, which stimulate muscle growth and cause testicular shrinkage. Chemotherapy, some antifungal drugs, antidepressants, ulcer medications, drugs, etc.
• Alcohol - reduces testosterone levels.
• Liver diseases, especially patients participating in the Hepatitis C program
•Tobacco - reduces sperm count,
•Surgeries that have been performed may cause ejaculation problems: vasectomy, inguinal hernia surgery, etc.
• Environmental factors - prolonged exposure to heat, toxins, chemicals reduces sperm count and quality. For example: gasoline, , pesticides, herbicides, organic solvents, paints, heavy metals - lead. Also radiation, frequent use of saunas, etc.
